Julie Clarkson might be a self-described “coffee snob” (which she attributes to her years working in Seattle), but it’s not caffeine that fuels her passion for turning email marketers into rockstars within their organizations. It’s her eagerness to pass along the tech-focused knowledge and skills she’s gained in a career spanning over 20 years in 1:1 marketing via email, product management, product marketing, and general marketing.
Her company, Kinzie Marketing, specializes in developing best-in-class, omnichannel marketing messaging—from implementation and strategy to conceptualization and execution—for B2B and B2C companies. Kinzie Marketing helps clients create dynamic, innovative and data-driven email messaging, and automate campaigns using the latest tricks of the trade. The ultimate goal: boosting customer engagement and driving growth and revenue.
Julie Clarkson is certified as a Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC) Consultant and a Salesforce Email Marketing Specialist. Whether SFMC customers need to get the platform up and running, unlock its full potential, or receive support and training, Julie has it covered.
Clients work directly with Julie, an accessible, trustworthy marketing partner. Julie brings invaluable skills and perspective to every assignment: thinking creatively, working fast under tough deadlines, using cost-effective technology to scale, and maximizing available resources. She also deploys a network of independent marketing pros—accomplished designers, copywriters, email marketers, developers and data engineers—on behalf of her clients, whenever they’re needed.
Julie Clarkson: a career at the intersection of tech and creativity
A University of Michigan graduate, Julie started her career in creative services and advertising, then moved into the online space during the dot-com wave in 1999. At Coolsavings.com, she managed consumer email and site production for national clients. She then moved to tech hotbed Seattle and became an email manager at Classmates.com, where she led email strategy and analysis before moving to product management.
Julie next became a founding employee of Avvo.com, where she began in product marketing and soon shifted to establishing the company’s email marketing operation. While wearing many “hats,” she directed strategic, personalized B2B and B2C campaigns, automating over 150 daily emails tied to events and legal issues. During her tenure, Avvo grew from a scrappy startup into the #1 online legal marketplace.
While at Avvo in 2011, Julie first became a customer of Salesforce Marketing Cloud (formerly ExactTarget). An authority with deep knowledge of the platform, she was one of only 15 customers selected as part of ExactTarget’s first midsize business advisory council. Her know-how in Saleforce’s Pardot suite led to a speaking engagement at the Salesforce Connections conference in 2016; her presentation was showcased as one of the top B2B sessions not to miss.
Applying her proficiency in email and mobile marketing, personalization and customization strategies and tactics, and more, Julie launched Kinzie Marketing in 2017 as a way to help a broad range of B2B and B2C companies scale their marketing efforts.
When she’s not helping clients achieve success one email at a time, Julie can be found sailing, sipping terrific coffees, tending to her vegetable garden, canning homegrown foods, or hanging out with her two rescue dogs. (She’s such an animal lover that Kinzie Marketing is named after her first rescue pup from Chicago, who was in turn named after a well-known street in the Windy City.)
